Is it time to replenish your summer wardrobe? If so, stop into the Corner Closet to see what they have to offer. Shop hours are Wed., Fri. & Sat. from 10 am to 1 pm.
The food locker is available year round to help Groton households in need of emergency food, especially now that summer is here and the children are not in school. Suggested donations include: canned fruit and vegetables, pasta, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna and chicken, macaroni and cheese, soup, baked beans, rice and instant potatoes. Donations can either be brought to the church Narthex (blue bin) or Groton Human Services at 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton. If you have fresh vegetables from your garden that you are willing to donate, bring them directly to Groton Human Services.
The PNC is asking for your help with replenishing their food pantry. They are low on the following items: pineapple, soups (chicken, beef, vegetable), chili, jelly, macaroni & cheese, pasta noodles. Their daily living closet is always in need of laundry detergent and dish soap. Please contact Jennifer @ Jennifer@thepnc.org. with questions.
Volunteers are needed to welcome new families from Afghanistan this year. The first is expected soon. Active recruitment is underway to assemble a team of several volunteers to prepare for their arrival, welcome them to New London, and provide ongoing help as they transition to life in their new community. The work is divided into two general areas (1) preparing for arrival and (2) ongoing activity. To learn how you can help welcome a refugee family, please attend a Thursday evening volunteer meetup which is held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal Street, New London.
