Fellowship Hour

We are looking for a volunteer willing to help with our post-worship Fellowship Hour.  After the service each Sunday, drinks and snacks are served in the Parlor.  We have a host for each Sunday, except for the Second Sunday of each month.  The task is making drinks (which are provided) and supplying refreshments (many are left in the freezer downstairs in the church kitchen).  If you have questions or are interested, please contact Betsey Goetsch.

Lay Readers Needed

We are looking for lay readers for August 11 & 18 and the fall months.  If interested in being a lay reader during those times, please sign your name on the sign-up sheet located on the card table in the Narthex or call Gloria in the church office 860-536-7129.

Hats for Hope Project

This is our 9th year of the Hats for Hope Project and we are still in need of hats so we can distribute them to the Cancer Society, homeless shelters, W.A.R.M., community kitchens, children’s hospitals and various schools to be given to children who are in need of a warm hat.  We distribute between 300-400 hats each year.  We need your help again to replenish our stock.  The hats can be knotted or crocheted and can be made for both adults and children.  If you can help, please contact Sandy Mansfield at 860-445-6208.

Storm Closings

In the rare event of cancellation of Sunday services or a church-wide activity due to weather conditions, notice is included in the storm closing and broadcast on Channels 3, 8 and 30.  In any case of inclement weather, all are encouraged to use the own judgment.

Start Fresh Volunteer Meetup

Volunteers are needed to welcome new families from Afghanistan this year.  The first is expected soon.  Active recruitment is underway to assemble a team of several volunteers to prepare for their arrival, welcome them to New London, and provide ongoing help as they transition to life in their new community.  The work is divided into two general areas (1) preparing for arrival and (2) ongoing activity.  To learn how you can help welcome a refugee family, please attend a Thursday evening volunteer meetup which is held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal Street, New London.  For additional information about Start Fresh, go to www.startfreshct.org.
